What is Estonia's largest battery energy storage system?

It will be used to provide Estonia’s state-owned energy company, Eesti Energia, has officially launched the country’s largest battery energy storage system at the Auvere industrial complex in Ida-Viru County. The 26.5 MW/53.1 MWh facility aims to enhance regional grid stability and reduce peak electricity costs for consumers.

Energy storage is also vital for meeting Estonia’s goal of sourcing all its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. The country’s climate minister, Yoko Alender, emphasised the role of storage systems in this transition, saying they would help ensure a “clean, reliable and affordable energy future” for Estonia.

Eesti Energia and a consortium of private companies are also launching separate, large-scale pumped hydro energy storage (PHES) projects, though these would come online in the late 2020s.
